They appeared on social media and immediately started making a daring career. And because you can see with the naked eye that they are close to the work of Joy Division, we decided to get to know them better. Then it turned out... Anyway, see for yourself. We present our interview with the Tåsen Tea Party.

Please introduce yourself, I was very surprised discovering that Tåsen Tea Party is a solo project...

Hi, I’m Tore, I live in Oslo in Norway, I have always interested in music, specially rock music and particularly. When I grew up I played in couple of rockbands in my small hometown south of Oslo. I remember with lots of enthusiasm the time spent in the dark local rock community basement. Now my last project named Tåsen Tea Party, is a solo project. Then it’s easy decisions, few discussions and efficient to produce music. I do have some excellent "mentors" out there that give me nice hint, inputs and feedbacs. So valuable.

Cześć, jestem Tore, mieszkam w Oslo w Norwegii, zawsze interesowałem się muzyką, szczególnie muzyką rockową. Kiedy dorosłem, grałem w kilku zespołach rockowych w moim małym rodzinnym mieście na południe od Oslo. Z wielkim entuzjazmem wspominam czas spędzony w mrocznej piwnicy lokalnej społeczności rockowej. What are you doing in normal live? (job, familly?)

Co robisz na co dzień, masz rodzinę i pracę?

In normal life working with IT in a normal day job, living with my family at Tåsen in Oslo. Hobbies further on involve skiing and mountaineering.

The name Tåsen Tea Party - is this inspired by the name of the first band of Ian Curtis - Treackle Teapot?

Nazwa Tåsen Tea Party - czy inspirowana jest nazwą pierwszego zespołu Iana Curtisa - Treackle Teapot?

Tåsen Tea Party... Well, living on Tåsen, the name of my local district/region in Oslo, so the name Tåsen Tea Party just came up. Simple as that. So not inspired by Ian Curtis’ band, the legend.

How do you compose, what is your most important inspiration?

Jak komponujesz, co jest Twoją najważniejszą inspiracją?

For the time beeing this project is all about a digital studio production. I normally come up with a bass riff I like and take it from there. I hear when its my sound. This project goes all with notes. When I went to classic piano lessons for years, then it was all about learning notes and classic works from the legends in that classic genre.

I did play a lot normal instruments, earlier like keyboard and guitar, growing up with 10 years with weekly piano lessons, as well as playing keyboard / gitar in several rock band in my teenages. But for now, its all done digital.

For this current project Tåsen Tea Party, is all about inspiration from the faith, the story, the context and the sound of the post punk pioneers of Joy Division. Most of the lyrics are about that setting back in late 70s, beginning of 80s in Manchester in some way, freely interpreted. The context, that situation, the mood and the vibes, kind of.

Na razie ten projekt polega na cyfrowej produkcji studyjnej. Zwykle wymyślam basowy riff, który mi się podoba i tak się zaczyna. Słyszę, kiedy to jest ten mój dźwięk. Ten projekt to jakby notatki. Kiedy przez lata chodziłem na lekcje klasycznego fortepianu, to wszystko polegało na nauce nut i klasycznych utworów od legend tego gatunku.

Grałem dużo na normalnych instrumentach, wcześniej, takich jak keyboard i gitara, dorastałem w wieku 10 lat z cotygodniowymi lekcjami gry na pianinie, a także grałem na keyboardzie/gitarze w kilku zespołach rockowych jako nastolatek. Ale na razie wszystko w obecnym projekcie jest robione cyfrowo.

Projekt Tåsen Tea Party opiera się na inspiracji wiarą, historią, kontekstem i brzmieniem postpunkowych pionierów Joy Division. Większość tekstów jest o tym, co się działo w późnych latach 70-tych, początku 80-tych w Manchesterze, w pewnym sensie jest to swobodnie interpretowane. Kontekst, sytuacja, nastrój i wibracje, poniekąd.

So, if Joy Division: Unknown Pleasures or Closer? And why?

Jeśli Joy Division to: Unknown Pleasures czy Closer? No i dlaczego?

Tricky questions if I had to choose one. Both of the longplayers have world class tracks and I do love them both. Listening to them really feel this was the beginning of something real new back then at that time.. The rest is story.

Podchwytliwe pytania, gdybym miał wybrać jeden album... Oba albumy zawierają światowej klasy utwory i kocham je oba. Słuchając ich naprawdę czułem, że to był początek czegoś zupełnie nowego w tamtych czasach. Reszta to już historia.

What are your music inspirations beyond Joy Division?

Jakie są Twoje inspiracje muzyczne poza Joy Division?

I get as well inspirations from bands like The Cure and New Order, as well as the outstanding and characteristic Norwegian rock band of Seigmen (N). You should give them a try.

Czerpię też inspiracje z takich zespołów jak The Cure i New Order, a także wybitnego i charakterystycznego norweskiego zespołu rockowego Seigmen (N). Powinieneś ich posłuchać.

I don’t have a particular poet that I’m inspired of, or I can say is my favorite..

Please say few words about your future plans

Możesz powiedzieć kilka słów o planach na przyszłość?

Still in a creative periode and even more new releases are in the pipe very soon as we speak.. EP nr 7 (She said no) is out on Bandcamp this week. In my opinion the best production so far. Maybe in the near future we wrap it all up in the very first real longplayer album. Will see how it goes. Feeling great letting it all flow and simply see what it brings with no special longterm strategy in mind. Right now, very happy creating tracks, and really inspiring with a lot of great feedback from the postpunk /darkwave crowds and bands around the world. It inspires my alot that people enjoy the sound and the work, and a lot of inputs about the feeling of Joy Division spirit and sound. Just great to her.

Wciąż jestem w fazie twórczej, a jeszcze więcej nowych wydawnictw jest w realizacji. EP nr 7 (Ona powiedziała nie) jest od tego tygodnia na Bandcamp. Moim zdaniem to najlepsza produkcja do tej pory. Może w niedalekiej przyszłości zamkniemy to wszystko w pierwszym prawdziwym albumie długogrającym. Zobaczymy, jak to będzie. Czuję się świetnie, pozwalając temu wszystkiemu płynąć i po prostu patrzeć, co z tego wychodzi bez specjalnej długoterminowej strategii. W tej chwili jestem bardzo zadowolony z tworzenia utworów i naprawdę inspiruje mnie wiele wspaniałym informacji zwrotnych od tłumów postpunkowych/darkwave i zespołów z całego świata. Bardzo mnie inspiruje to, że ludziom podoba się brzmienie i moja praca, a także wiele otrzymywanych informacji na temat tego, że ludzie czują w moich utworach ducha i dźwięki Joy Division. To jest po prostu świetnie.
